State Legislators Nelson and Griffin, Cabinet Secretary of Education Curious About School Readiness

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – February 19, 2014 – Tomorrow, Oklahoma state Representative Jason Nelson, Senator A.J. Griffin, and Cabinet Secretary of Education and Work Force Development Robert Sommers will participate in a dynamic learning experience about early childhood education at the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness (OPSR) board meeting.

This board meets quarterly to advise Governor Fallin and the legislature on early childhood issues and forges partnerships between public and private early childhood stakeholders in Oklahoma.

“We are pleased to see an interest in school readiness from those who have the ability to make changes for our smallest citizens,” OPSR Board Chair Ann Cameron said.

Nelson is a member of the House Common Education committee, as well as the Conference Committee on common education. Through Nelson’s position on these committees, he will give another voice for the needs of children in the state. Griffin, as former Smart Start community coordinator for Guthrie, has much experience with OPSR and school readiness initiatives. Griffin has authored bills related to school bulling and issues related to the juvenile code.

“This board is vital to making sure that Oklahoma children have the best start they can—for school and life,” Cameron said.
